Newest Gallup Poll shows most Americans are still pro-life

Last year, I wrote about how I participated in my first ever Gallup poll and was asked whether I was “pro-choice or pro-life.” I was pleased to read a few days later that for the first time in history more Americans are now pro-life than pro-choice. This shift toward the pro-life view held in another poll taken last July and then recently this year in May. Here are the results of the most recent poll.

Gallup Poll

May 3-6, 2010.
N=1,029 adults nationwide.
MoE ± 4.

“With respect to the abortion issue, would you consider yourself to be pro-choice or pro-life?”

Pro-choice: 45%
Pro-life: 47%
Neither/Mixed: 2%
Don’t know what terms mean: 4%
Unsure: 3%

This is the third poll in little over a year conducted by Gallup on the pro-life/pro-abortion issue. In each one, the pro-life position held a slim majority.
