Supposedly the largest cocaine seizure in U.S. history took place in late April in Tampa, Florida. Thousands of Brazilian cedar boards that had been hollowed out and stuffed with Colombian cocaine were x-rayed and split apart by federal agents, according to the Associated Press.
Federal agents were tipped off from an anonymous letter from Cali, Colombia, about a freighter, Amazon Sky, which would dock in Florida with 4,000 kilograms of cocaine. U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents believe the cocaine was imported by the “Cali Cartel,” a world-class competitor of the “Medellin Cartel,” the violent Colombian gang believed to be responsible for up to 80 percent of U.S. cocaine imports.
