In one recent 10 month period, 1 of every 200 maternal patients was taken directly to the emergency room after surgery at Aware Woman abortion clinic in Melbourne, Florida. It is well known that the safety risk for unborn patients of Aware Woman is very high, but Christians For Life believes that even the most avid abortion rights advocates will agree that this maternal safety record is unacceptable. Christians For Life invites the National Organization for Women (NOW) and all other entities that advocate abortion rights to join with them in demanding a complete and speedy investigation of this unacceptable maternal complication rate. We obviously differ in our concern for the safety of unborn children, however we should certainly be able to come together in agreement over the concern for the safety of the mothers.
In the 10 month period from 3/29/97 to 1/31/98, at least 4 mothers were taken to the emergency room directly from Aware Woman. The dates of these emergency room visits were 3/29/97, 7/4/97, 12/12/97, and 1/31/98. The abortionist on duty on all four above dates was William Philip Egherman, who resides in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The Agency for Health Care Administration is investigating complaints filed as a result of these trips to the emergency room. Two of these complaints have cleared the Office of the General Counsel and a recommendation has been completed for submission to the probable cause panel of the professional board.
Christians For Life will begin warning maternal patients about Aware Woman’s bad safety record on Saturday, March 28, 1998 using various methods to get the message across. Press packets with copies of the various complaints as well as audio tapes of the 911 calls will be available in front of Aware Woman from 9:00 am until 11:00 am while the warnings are being given.
3/28/98 update: About 23 patients went into Aware Woman, three left without having an abortion. Pictured below is the scene across the street from Aware Woman’s parking lot showing the signs that warned patients about Aware Woman’s bad maternal safety record. No patients left in an ambulance today.
