Vol. 2 No. 2

Hello to all our friends studying and doing research in the United States! It is with great pleasure that we bring to you this Winter ’94 edition of The Mandate.

Our hope is that this issue will give you challenging insights into the root causes of modern events, the latest news from inside China, inspiring stories of Chinese students and scholars who have found a reason to hope, and practical tips about American cities, music, books, and culture.

This issue explores two themes: taking a close look at the necessary ingredients for a market-based economy to succeed, and discovering the true meaning of the Christmas holiday. We trust that you will find both of these topics stimulating reading.

In addition, we are highlighting the historic city of Boston this issue in our “Living On The Cutting Edge” section.

We welcome your comments, insights and questions and look forward to hearing from you.

Our next issue will be delivered to your campus in February ’95. Please contact us if you are interested in becoming a volunteer bulk distributor or would like The Mandate delivered to your door.

Until next time – Enjoy!
